About the Event
Named Huakina by Rodney Bell, the work will be shared on 13 July, followed by a Q&A, at Wellesley Studios. Seating is extremely limited for this free, special sharing. Please contact producer@touchcompass.org.nz if you are interested in attending, including any access requirements. Rodney says, "The inspiration behind Huakina is the amazing opportunity for Touch Compass to create a dance work with Lawrence Shapiro. Huakina means to open, and this is the creative force we will be working with in our rehearsals. We will be opening and unfolding Lawrence's lived experiences to do with dance, travel, and close to the heart stories of navigating his dance world through the lens of a disabled artist, or as we say at Touch Compass, an artist that "leans differently in the wind". "As Lawrence is from Canada, I'm very interested in what his cultural differences might bring into the creative space as well. I'm feeling pumped to be creating with Lawrence alongside Alisha McLennan Marler and Fiona Saunders, with the support of Creative Producer Izzy Robinson."
