Many readers will be aware of the angst caused following the 2019 announcement that the Auckland-based Laura Fergusson Rehabilitation (LFR) which had been providing a number of services to disabled people since it’s establishment in 1967, was to close its doors.

After a two year battle through the Courts to stop its closure and then reopen it, the High Court encouraged both sides to enter mediation - opponents and proponents to the closure - serving together on the Board f Laura Fergusson Trust. Then, in a surprise move at the 2023 AGM of the Trust, the entire Board resigned and the new Board that was elected is made up entirely of new members from the Friends of Laura Fergusson Trust who sought to keep the facility open.

After the Christmas / New Year break, the group will start the new year looking at how it will move forward.
