Over 200 young disabled athletes from all over New Zealand converged at Auckland’s King’s College for the annual Halberg Games.

Hosted by the Halberg Foundation, the annual event has grown from its beginnings when it was known as the “Mini Olympics” and was organised by the Crippled Children Society (known today as CCS Disability Action).
After being held in three different regions last year after a break due to COVID-19, this year’s national Games brought teams from the far north to the deep south together with competitors competing in a variety of sporting events including track and field, rugby, basketball and boccia.

Those in attendance included the Hon. Priyanca Radhakrishnan, Minister for Disability Issues and Paula Tesoriero, Chief Executive of Whaikaha - the Ministry of Disabled People who declared the Games open. Both spoke at the Opening Ceremony.
